The FIA runs the event and is responsible for the safety of the drivers, crew, marshals and spectators.

To manage the cars on track that deploy a safety car, or pace car, controlling the speed of the cars on track under specific circumstances. Most typically when an incident on track requires the race to be neutralised.

Since 2021, Formula 1 has alternated safety cars between an Aston Martin Vantage and Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series. Bernd Mayländer has driven the FIA’s F1 Safety Car since 2000.
