The chassis in F1 is a monocoque, or shell construction, that uses an external carbon fibre skin to support most of the car’s components. As such, the chassis is integral to the body of the vehicle.

The monocoque chassis is a safety cell for the driver in extreme situations and must therefore be almost indestructible.
