Halo : driving.co.uk

A driver crash-protection system used in open-wheel racing series, the halo consists of a curved bar placed to protect the driver’s head

The F1-spec Halo is made from strong, lightweight titanium tubing, which is then attached to the car’s carbon fibre chassis at three points for maximum rigidity. The system adds around 9kg to the car’s weight.

The FIA sanctioned the halo in 2018 for all formula categories. And while many would argue its aesthetics are less than ideal, it has been proven a lifesaver in three major incidents since its introduction.
