Grid position

The Grid position refers to the position, or grid box, the driver takes on the start grid. This is determined by their qualifying ranking and can be affected by applying grid place penalties.

The ultimate spot is Pole Position with drivers doing all they can to get as close to the front of the grid as possible, to maximise their start and avoid the tangles that can occur further down the grid.
