A driver can be ordered to give the position back where they are following their teammate, faster but unable to pass and with a better chance of chasing down the cars ahead. This could be due to being on different strategies, the chasing driver having more grip or simply being quicker on the day.
In this scenario, team orders are given to swap positions and the driver coming through will be given the opportunity, but if they can’t capitalise on it they will be ordered to ‘give the position back’ so their teammate retains maximum points.
