F1 is one of the most technologically advanced sports on the planet. The cars are full of sensors that constantly feed data back to the race engineers. Ceratin data is also available to the race stewards to assist with ensuring compliance and determining breaches.

Driver feedback to the race engineer is just as important as the driver can feel how the car is performing and give suggestions (or instructions) to the team for adjustments. Often when a team principal is listing the merits of a particular driver they will reference their ability to provide quality feedback to the engineers.
