Drag : mclaren.co

Drag is the resistance caused by air hitting a solid object as it is propelled forward.

When the solid object is a wing, the airflow creates an uplift for an aeroplane or downforce for an F1 rear wing. The payoff is drag, causing resistance and impeding speed.

F1 cars use a rear wing to create downforce, maximising speed through corners and a DRS to reduce drag, maximising speed on the straights.
