Corner markers are a common sight on race tracks around the world. They identify a set distance (150m, 100m & 50m) from the apex of the corner to assist the driver in establishing and hitting his optimum braking point for the corner ahead. 

Boards on the side of the track, as pictured, are made from polystyrene so as to not damage the cars if they hit them.
