Barriers are used on race tracks to keep the cars in and the public out. Whereever possible barriers are set back from the track to provide a run off area, or gravel trap, where the cars speed can be reduced sufficiently to avoid an impact.

Barriers have evolved over the years, from hay bales that were banned in the 60’s to tyre stacks, Armco and now the highly sophisticated TechPro systems that are designed to absorb energy.
