Pato O’Ward made his official F1 debut during practice for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix – an experience that left the IndyCar racer wanting more.
O’Ward took over the MCL36 of Lando Norris for the opening one-hour session at the Yas Marina Circuit, in which he completed 22 laps and finished 18th overall.

Felipe Drugovich took to the track in the Aston Martin AMR22 for FP1 of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix after joining the team as their reserve driver.
The 2022 Formula 2 World Champion was signed by Aston Martin in September as their reserve driver, two days after winning his title.
George Russell led a one-two with Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton at the Sao Paulo GP making him an F1Newbie; also securing Mercedes’ first of the season.
A day earlier, George stood on the top step of the podium, having won the third sprint race of the season.
A wet track and George Russell’s red flag may have played a part, but the Haas Teams’ first pole position can’t be denied. The achievement was duplicated for Kevin Magnussen also, with the Dane taking his first-ever F1 Pole.
The team have a Sprint Race and Feature Race to get through before they can celebrate this tremendous achievement, but no doubt, there will be a toast or two on Sunday night…
Kevin Magnussen grabbed a phenomenal first F1 pole after a thrilling wet Qualifying session at Sao Paulo was thwarted by George Russell causing a Red Flag.
Pietro Fittipaldi is an American-Brazilian driver racing under a Brazilian flag and the grandson of 2 times world champion Emerson Fittipaldi. He took to the track, in Kevin Magnussen’s Hass VF-22 for the FP1 session of the Mexican GP 2022.
Pietro is the reserve driver for Haas (2022) and has been part of the Haas team since 2018 having completed several test days. He stood in for Romain Grosjean finishing in 17th at Sakhir on debut.
At the time of his FP1 session, he is a strong contender for a full-time seat at Haas for the coming season.
Logan Sargeant took to the track at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) for FP1 in the Williams FW44.
An American racing driver, currently competing in the FIA Formula 2 Championship with Carlin and contracted to Williams F1 Team for 2023 (pending the issuing of a Super License)
Following the practice session and ahead of the race, Williams announced that Logan would be taking the wheel for FP1 at Mexico and Abu Dhabi.
Álex Palou Montalbo is a Spanish Indycar driver contracted to Chip Ganassi Racing and the winner of the 2021 series championship. He is the first Spanish racing driver to win a National Championship in American open-wheel racing.
Having previously tested with McLaren in Barcelona, he became an official F1Newbie when he took to the track in Austin, Texas for FP1 of the USGP in 2022.
