The 17th round of the 2022 F1 season took place on the streets of Singapore. We outline the race in our report F1 Review Singapore 2022.

The Grand Prix at Singapore has its place in F1 history as the first night race to be run on the calendar. It was first run in the late 1960s at Thomson Road but did not count towards the F1 world championship. It was first run as a world championship Grand Prix at Marina Bay in 2008. The circuit is demanding, making it very difficult for drivers to pass others. There has been at least one safety car period in each Grand Prix. The circuit has also been the venue of one of the most controversial F1 scandals in 2008, namely, “Crashgate”.

Incident-filled

The race began in sodden conditions and the start was delayed by an hour. Zhou Guanyu (Alfa Romeo) and Nicolas Latifi (Williams-Mercedes) came together on lap seven. The Canadian crowded the Chinese driver into the wall under braking at Turn 5, bringing out the safety car. This was the beginning of what was to be an incident-filled race…
