The helmet, or lid, is a key part of the overall safety system and today’s version is a far cry from the leather football caps of the early 40’s. Today they are precision fitted, to a scan of the driver’s head with every detail custom-tuned to suit the driver’s set-up and the aerodynamics of the car.

In 2020 the FIA scrapped rules restricting drivers to a single design, opening up the opportunity for cool designs to be rolled out displaying everything from the driver’s personalities, acknowledging a special event or support of a cause.
